Predoctoral Program: Financial Aid

Guidelines for Applying

  • All accepted and continuing students applying for financial aid must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. There is no fee for processing the FAFSA. The UConn School of Medicine school code to file a FAFSA is G09867. The UConn School of Dental Medicine school code to file a FAFSA is G11215.
  • Your eligibility for the Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan, the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan and Graduate PLUS Loan is determined on the basis of the information you provide on the FAFSA. You must also complete Part I (PDF) of the UConn Application for Financial Aid if you are applying for these loans. If you are applying for the Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan, the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan and/or the Graduate PLUS Loan only, you are not required to provide parental information and should refer to the How to Apply for Financial Aid – I.
  • Students who wish to be considered for institutional scholarships, loans and Title VII funds in addition to the Federal Stafford Loans, must submit a FAFSA and complete Part I (PDF) and Part II (PDF) of the UConn Application for Financial Aid. Parent financial information must be included in both the UConn Application and the FAFSA even if you claim financial independence. Please note: if you are applying for institutional aid in addition to the Federal Stafford and Graduate PLUS Loans, you must fill out Step Four of the FAFSA, even if you have answered "yes" to any of the questions in Step Three. If you do not fill out all sections of Step Four, you will not be considered for any financial aid other than the Federal Stafford Loans. Refer to the How to Apply for Financial Aid – I and II.
  • Entering students should apply upon notification of their acceptance. No late fees will be assessed if forms are filed within a reasonable period after notification of acceptance.
  • International students must present documentary evidence of their ability to meet all expenses for at least the first year of study and an acceptable plan for financing the remainder of their program, before a student visa can be issued. International students are not eligible for federal loans and scholarships.
  • Fill out the FAFSA using completed 2007 federal tax returns. If you have not or will not file a 2007 U.S. Income Tax Return, you must complete the 2008-2009 Student Non-Tax Filer Statement (PDF) and return it to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Communicate any special circumstances in writing along with documentation directly to the Financial Aid Office.
  • The information you provide on the FAFSA is subject to verification according to guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Seek outside aid! The Financial Aid Office notifies students by email of scholarship opportunities as they arise. The most comprehensive list of scholarships and grants can be found on the Internet at www.fastweb.com. Please stop by the Financial Aid Office for information about other sites.
