Predoctoral Program: Curriculum

Critical Thinking in Dentistry

The Critical Thinking in Dentistry track consists of two courses that together span all four years of the curriculum. The courses are designed to help students reinforce and incorporate the basic medical sciences in the care of dental patients.

Correlated Medical Problem Solving Course (Dental):
The Correlated Medical Problem Solving course runs throughout the first year and is presented in a problem-based learning format. Cases are chosen to reinforce and integrate the basic science concepts presented in the Human Systems course.

Correlated Dental Problem Solving:
This course helps students develop the ability to analyze patient databases and synthesize treatment plans that are evidence-based and consistent with the highest standards of dental care. The course is based on a small-group problem-based learning format that consists of 2 faculty facilitators and 12 students (4 each from the second, third, and fourth year classes).
