Aetna Health Professions Partnership Initiative
College Enrichment Program

The program:

  • Photo of a student conducting research at the UConn Health CenterIs for currently enrolled University of Connecticut freshmen and sophomores.
  • Addresses the needs of University of Connecticut freshmen and sophomores.
  • Is designed to provide sound development of scientific and mathematical skills.
  • Is structured to provide room and board.
  • Consists of courses in individual programs of study in:
    • Organic Chemistry
    • Biochemistry
    • Calculus
    • Physics

Important Dates

  • April 9, 2012: Postmark date for all applications
  • May 29, 2012: First day of program
  • July 27, 2012: Last day of program

All Applicants Should:

1. Be currently enrolled University of Connecticut college freshmen or sophomores with a ‘B’ average or better.

2. Have high motivation and demonstrate potential for pursuing a career in medicine, dental medicine or biomedical research.

3. Be from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the health professions (African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Native Alaskan, Native Hawaiian) or others from disadvantaged backgrounds who meet all eligibility criteria and have a high probability of fulfilling the social and educational goals of this program.

4. Submit a completed application form (Word doc) available from your counselor, this web site, or by email.

5. Have an official transcript submitted from each college or university attended.

6. Provide two letters of recommendation, preferably from a science instructor.

7. Provide a copy of your Federal Income Tax Form 1040 or Equivalent for 2011 (submit when completed and filed).
