Section of Operative Dentistry

The Section of Operative Dentistry manages education, research and patient care. The Section focuses on caries management and risk assessment, treatment planning for the restorative patients, dental materials, rehabilitation of single teeth, the replacement of single teeth using adhesive techniques and esthetics. The educational component focuses on didactic courses, simulated clinical exercises and pre-doctoral clinic sessions that concentrate on the before mentioned five areas of focus for the Section. The Section also supports many post-doctoral programs in the areas of dental materials, caries management and esthetic dentistry. Research interests and activity involve both in vitro and clinical trials in the areas of particulate and fiber-reinforced composites adhesives, and microleakage of restorative materials and root filling materials. Faculty contribute to continuing education at both the national and international level, serve on editorial boards or act as reviewers for many journals, author numerous publications and are active members in many professional organizations.
